2008 LIMITED SPORTSMAN


 

GENERAL RULES


 

1.      Any 1970 to 2000 American made auto with no less than 101” wheel base minimum.

2.      Anything not specified in rules must be stock production.

 

Weight:

1.      Cars must weigh a minimum of 3100lbs with driver after race.

2.      Cars with aluminum, fiberglass or plastic bodies carry a weight penalty of 100lbs.

3.      Cars with fabricated chassis carry weight penalty of 100lbs.

4.      Fabricated/aftermarket floor pans/ or removal of floor pans & firewall carry a weight penalty of 75lbs.

5.      Left side weight:

            57% for cars using stock steel bodies.

            54% for cars using after market bodies. (steel, aluminum, plastic or fiberglass)

4. GM crate engine #88958602 will receive 100lbs weight break. (stock body/ stock frame with 602,
    58% left side) .

                                   

Engine and Drivetrain:

1.      Maximum engine size 360cid.

2.      Maximum engine bore is .060

3.      GM crate engine #88958604 approved,

4.      Stock cast iron heads, no angle plug heads. (NO porting or polishing).

5.      Camshaft; must be flat tappet, No roller or mushroom valve lifters.

6.      Maximum .500 lift cams (.333 lobe lift) steel only NO TOLERANCE.

7.      Stock or stock replacement crankshafts. No lighting or knife edging.

8.   An HEI style distributor must be used. Coil and module must remain in distributor.
A special RPM limiting module must be used.

9.      Aftermarket oil pans allowed.

10.  Stock flywheels, no lightweight.

11.  Stock or multi disc clutches.

12.  Stock transmission, with steel drive shaft and safety loop (required). Drive shaft must be painted white.

13.  Rear ends must be stock type mounted in stock location. (locker permitted) NO quick change rear ends. Floater OK

14.  Minimum crankshaft height 12”.

 

Carburetors:

1.      Built engines: Out of the box stock # 4412 Holley two barrel only. Choke horn must remain. Choke mechanism may be removed. One carburetor spacer maximum thickness with gaskets of 1 ¼". Carburetor must be unaltered.

2.      GM crate engine # 88958602 & # 88958604  # 4150-80541 650cfm (must fit all gauges) Choke assembly may be removed. Crate Motor spacer Maximum height 1" Aluminum, Open or 4-hole type allowed. No taper or beveled holes.

3.      Cars with fabricated chassis & floor pans   # 7448 box stock (must fit all gauges).  One carburetor spacer maximum thickness with gaskets of 1 ¼".  No cold air boxes   
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

 Body & Appearance:

1.      All bodies must be in stock location on frame.

2.      Full stock firewall must remain.

3.      Aftermarket hood, nose & bumper covers allowed.

4.      Rear spoiler maximum height 6” X 60” wide.

5.      5” ground clearance. (NO TOLERANCE)

6.      Full front lexan windshield.

7.      All bodies will be stock appearing in all ways, (NO CHOPPING OR ALTERING)

 

Brakes:

1.      Stock brakes disc or drum. No aftermarket calipers

2.      May run adjustable proportioning valves

 

Suspension:

1.      Frame must remain stock from front of steering box to center of rear axle. Frame may be notched for fuel pump clearance. Uni-body frames may be connected with 2”x 3” tubing. Shortened factory frames, or non-matching front and rear factory frames 50lbs. penalty.

2.      Minimum 5” diameter springs.

3.      One steel non-adjustable shock per wheel, $150.00 max. cost, any shock determined to have a new price of more than $150.00 WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.                 (Mounting optional).

4.      Lower trailing arms must be stock only and mounted in stock location.

5.      A single non- adjustable pannard bar mounted behind the rear axel permissible.

6.      Steering must be stock type for year & make of chassis. Cars that come with factory rack & pinion must run factory stock rack for make & model.

7.      Steering: manual or power permissible.

8.      A-Frames: stock lower, may use tubular upper A-frames.

9.      Engine set back: #1 plug must line up with ball joint.

 

Tires & Wheels:

1.      8” maximum steel wheels.

2.      HOOSIER SPORTSMAN 26 5/8 X 15.

BIR officials reserves the right to alter these rules in the name of fair competition.  

 You are responsible for the weight of your car, make sure you understand the rules and make your car the correct weight for after the race.
